Most public health surveillance employs one of the following methods to collect data. In this section, we discuss the most common approaches: passive, active, syndromic and sentinel surveillance. In practice, these methods are not mutually exclusive, so a surveillance program may use approaches from one or more of these methods. We also briefly describe methods typically use for AMR surveillance.
