3.6 The Exten(DT)² platform

The Exten(DT)² platform is a password-protected online platform that teachers and students can use to implement design thinking projects. Students can access all technologies, MaLT2, ChoiCo, SorBET, nQuire for Students, and GearsBot via this platform. Any artefacts students produce using these technologies such as online games are automatically stored on the platform and easily accessible whenever they visit it.

When you can access the Exten(DT)² platform [Tip: hold Ctrl and click a link to open it in a new tab. (Hide tip)] , log in as an educator.

Transcript: Video 10  Using the Extend(DT)² platform

First, go to https://extendt2.com/ and insert your email and password here. Click on Groups first. Now you need to create a group. Click on 'Create group', which you see on your left hand side at the corner. Click the group's name, probably RecyclingG2, and add the description. Insert students' names there. First names should be okay. And after that, click on Create. This way you have created a group. You can see RecyclingG2. Now add group members. Here we are not going to add group members, but you will be adding the group that I have created as an administrator, so RecyclingG2. Click on OK.
Next is, now go back. Now you need to add the activity. So Activities. Create activity. Click on 'Create activity'. So, name. So since you have chosen Recycling, so probably 'Recycling' can be the activity's name. Give some description, as I have done here. I have decided for this game that students will use ChoiCo, so I'm going to insert some instructions related to ChoiCo here. So now select the tool, ChoiCo. Save it. Now you have created activity, which will appear as a digital card in the student's dashboard. So now you need to add groups, RecyclingG2 for this activity, and click OK. It's done.
Now let's see how students find this activity when they log in using their account. So as a learner they will log in RecyclingG2 account that I have created which I have given to you as well. So Activities. They will press on Activities and they will see it's Recycling as the digital card. Now they will click on Start. So it will directly take them to ChoiCo activity. Had you selected SorBET then this could have taken them to SorBET activity. So now what they need to do, like they will play the game but here they will design a game. So I won't be designing a game here. I'll just show you how they can save it. So after they create multiple versions... for example, let's imagine this is the first version. So they will save it. Let's say Test 1, Test 2, Test 3 and Test 4. Okay, now let's save it. You will see the pins there with the names, headings. So the update was successful.
Now let's imagine they will create another iteration as well. So you can see one iteration created on 12th of April. Now next iteration. Let's do one more using different picture. So I'll insert a different picture from my internal drive. So yeah, now you can see the same. Let's make some modifications here as well. Let's add Test 4 as well, and then save it just to see the different iterations being saved. Test 4. Imagine that these are the two different games that they have saved. So you will see in Load & Share section, you will see two different iterations. This is the first one that they created, and the latter one was the, yeah, this one. So yeah. Now, once they are done and once they are happy with their game, if they are happy with the final iterations, final iteration of the game, so they can close it and they can mark it as complete. So 'Mark as completed'. Now as a teacher, if you log in you will see this under 'Completed activity'. So as a teacher, if you go to Recycling and then see the completed activity here, so you will see here RecyclingG2 as one of the completed activities, and it will take you directly to their ChoiCo game.
Now what you need to do is, you need to create one more activity that is to make them collect feedback on the game that they have designed. So they will use nQuire for students here. So 'Collecting feedback' can be the name of the activity. So description, yeah, you can write some description. And then these are the instructions and how to use nQuire for students. So then the tool that you will select for them is nQuire, because they're going to collect feedback from their friends, so save it. Now you need to assign group. So the group is group two. You also can assign other groups as well. So it's successful, okay. So let's go back, let's log out and then let's see as a student what they will find. Again, the same kind of digital card which will direct them to, after clicking on that digital card, it will direct them to nQuire for students.
Now here, what they need to do is they need to use their username and password, because it's a different platform, which are created for nQuire for students, and once they do so they can sign in and they can create a mission. And here they can insert the game link, as you see. The game link which they will get from Exten(DT)² platform, they will paste it here. And after designing a game, first of all they will pilot, 'Start pilot', so that they can collect feedback. And then later after revising their work, they can request launch. So this is how they will work on Exten(DT)² platform. And once they are done, they can first of all save it and then mark it as complete. So this shows like they have completed both the tasks that you have given. Thank you.

  Activity 9 Create activity cards on Exten(DT)²

Timing: Allow around 15 minutes

You are a teacher and access the Exten(DT)² platform to create learning activities for your students for a design thinking project you are preparing. Remember that each learning activity can be represented with an activity card.

First of all, to sign in as an educator in this platform, you must have have a username and password since this platform is the password-protected. Your username is your email that you have used to register for this course. Check your email sent by info@extendt2.com to obtain the password. You may find the following in your email:

The message you will receive from the Exten(DT)² platform to verify your email account.

Click on the box that says ‘Please click me to verify your email’. After you click on it, you will get the password for you to log in to the Exten(DT)² platform.

  1. Visit the Exten(DT)² platform.

  2. Log in to the platform as an ‘Educator’. The Exten(DT)² administrator has created some Group accounts for students, such as Group 1 students, Group 2 students and Group 3 students. You will be able to add these groups to the students group you will create.

  3. Create a group of students by clicking on ‘Groups’.

  4. Click on ‘Create group’, give a group name such as, Energy Issue Group 1, Energy Issue Group 2 etc., add a short description to the group (possibly 3 pseudonames of students as you are going to involve pupils in a group) and click the ‘Save’ button.

  5. Click on ‘Add group members’ and select pupil groups (Group 1 students, Group 2 students) to add them to a specific group that you have created.

    (Note: Only an institution administrator can register new learners. Teachers can only assign already registered learners into groups.)

    • i.Click on ‘Go back’ and select ‘Activities’.
    • ii.Click on ‘Create activity’ and give it a name and a short description.
    • iii.Now choose a digital tool for this activity from the drop-down menu. This is the tool students can access and interact with.
    • iv.Click on the activity you have created.
    • v.Click on ‘Add groups’, select the group you would like this activity assigned to and click on ‘OK’.
