This basic-level certification recognizes practical experience in geospatial electrification modelling using OnSSET. The certification emphasizes hands-on experience with developing and debugging national-scale OnSSET models, scenario analysis, and the ability to begin addressing real-world energy access planning challenges.

Applicants will earn the OnSSET - Bronze Proficiency Badge if their submission meets the following criteria:

1.     Completed an intermediate-level in-person training course for OnSSET (e.g., Energy Modelling Platform or equivalent)

2.     Submitted a project report or modelling case study demonstrating the application of learned skills

Evidence required:

·         Upload evidence of attending an in-person training course or master's degree module / course i.e. certificate of completion/graduation, letter of invitation etc. 

·         Provide (Zenodo) links to materials produced from the course i.e. project report, posters, policy briefs, assessments etc.

This badge demonstrates advanced proficiency in developing and applying geospatial electrification modelling using OnSSET. Silver badge holders can design sophisticated models for real-world applications, effectively communicate results to stakeholders, and adapt models across different contexts.

Applicants will earn the OnSSET - Silver Proficiency Badge if their submission meets the following criteria:

1.     Demonstrate 2 years of work/project experience with OnSSET, OR 1 year of work/project experience, plus a relevant publication

Evidence required:

Submit one of the following:

·         A completed Master's thesis using OnSSET

·         A published peer-reviewed paper (as 1st or 2nd author) using OnSSET

·         A high-quality published report (or project output) using OnSSET

AND a Letter of Reference

This expert-level certification recognizes mastery in geospatial electrification modelling using OnSSET to solve real-world energy access planning challenges. It validates the ability to either develop innovative solutions to complex energy challenges, manage sophisticated modelling projects, and, or effectively translate technical insights into high-level policy recommendations.

Applicants will earn the OnSSET - Gold Proficiency Badge if their submission meets the following criteria:

1.     5 years’ work/project experience with OnSSET OR PhD plus 2 years project experience

2.     Demonstrate at least two of the following skills

o    Create innovative improvements and critical assessments of relevant modelling techniques and methodologies

o    Manage and develop highly complex energy/resource models that are able to solve critical real-world problems

o    Apply advanced coding and debugging skills to resolve intricate modelling challenges

o    Translate complex modelling results into actionable policy recommendations for senior decision-makers

Evidence required:

• A CV demonstrating the required experience  
• Provide links to 2 peer-reviewed academic publications or policy papers, as lead author, showcasing at least two of the above skills 
• OR Documentation of a conference presentation demonstrating 1 of the above skills and a peer-reviewed academic publication or policy paper, as lead author, demonstrating another one of the above skills.

This certification recognizes the ability to effectively support and deliver geospatial electrification modelling training using OnSSET. It validates capabilities in teaching specific aspects of OnSSET, adapting teaching methods to diverse learners, and providing constructive feedback on modelling exercises. The qualification ensures instructors can effectively communicate complex modelling concepts to novice learners.

Applicants will earn the OnSSET – Associate Instructor Badge if their submission meets the following criteria:

1. Hold at least a Bronze proficiency badge in OnSSET
2. Complete at least 1 week (40 hours) of assisting/co-teaching with a Lead Instructor
3. Lead one training session independently (with observation by a Lead Instructor)

Evidence required: 

·         Documentation of teaching hours, i.e. dates and timings of teaching events signed off by lead instructor 

·         A positive evaluation letter from a Lead Instructor (that references participant self-led teaching session)

This advanced teaching certification recognizes expertise in designing and delivering comprehensive OnSSET training programs. It validates the ability to create sophisticated training materials, mentor other instructors, and adapt programs to diverse learning contexts. The qualification ensures instructors can lead complex training initiatives while advancing modelling education methodology.

Applicants will earn the OnSSET – Lead Instructor Badge if their submission meets the following criteria: 

1. Hold at least a Silver proficiency badge in OnSSET
2. Document teaching experience 
3. Provide evidence of independently designing and leading a full training program

Required Evidence:

 Submit comprehensive teaching portfolio:

• Provide links to / or upload course materials showcasing an example of full course design (should include syllabuses, assessments, timetable of lesson delivery etc.)
• Documentation of successful program delivery (Energy Modelling Platform track, in-country workshop or University Module corresponding to minimum 1 week/40 hours of teaching)- this could be in the form of student feedback or a letter of reference from training program coordinator or certified OnSSET Lead Instructor. 
• Link to student training outputs
• Submit a brief teaching philosophy (1-2 pages) outlining how you adapt training to different audiences and local contexts
