Hi, my name is Naana Nkansah Agyekum.

THOMAS DUNMORE:

My name is Thomas, from Oxfam.

AWSSAM KAMAL:

My name is Awssam Kamal.

WING LAM:

My name is Wing, from Oxfam.

ALL:

Welcome to Make Change Happen.

WING LAM:

The world is an ever-changing environment. Whether it’s politically, economically, culturally – progression is happening all the time.

THOMAS DUNMORE:

In partnership with The Open University and contributions from people working on change around the world, Oxfam created this course to connect and inspire changemakers, like yourself.

We want to help equip you with the skills to influence positive and progressive change in your area.

AWSSAM KAMAL:

Through the course, we will learn how change happens, how we as individuals can change our own assumptions, and explore ideas on how to influence policies and behaviours.

THOMAS DUNMORE:

We’ll hear how we can build our own power, understand what it means to be an effective leader of change, and how to work cooperatively on a common goal.

NAANA NKANSAH AGYEKUM:

No matter what context of change you are involved with, you will learn practical tools and approaches to help you progress change effectively.

THOMAS DUNMORE:

But you’re not just here to listen. Your voice is important to making change happen And we want to hear from you.

WING LAM:

Many of you are already part of change movements and we invite you to share your experiences and perspectives.

NAANA NKANSAH AGYEKUM:

There are a lot of opportunities to do this, through discussions as well as connecting with other activists around the globe.

THOMAS DUNMORE:

The more you participate, the more you’ll get out of it.

NAANA NKANSAH AGYEKUM:

We invite you to reflect on this learning journey and how it applies to your current situation.

AWSSAM KAMAL:

Once you have all the information, we hope you can implement it into your practise.

WING LAM:

Whether that’s a change process you are already part of or something you are interested in starting with your community.

We’re certain you’ll come away feeling better equipped and even more inspired to work on change for social justice and equality, wherever you are.

Welcome to this course! By joining us on this journey we know that you are someone who is interested in making change happen.

As we begin, the world is in a period of intense turmoil. Conflict in parts of the world, the spike in food and fuel prices, the climate crisis, the politically motivated persecution of migrants and other groups, and crackdowns on activism and human rights are affecting most countries directly or indirectly. How we respond to these pressures will be critically important for changemakers seeking to help make positive change happen for people and the planet.

You may be new to this area, or you may already be active as a changemaker in your community. You want to deepen your understanding of how change happens, to sharpen your skills in creating change that really sticks, and to share your experience and learn from others who are working on different change actions around the world.

Whatever your concern or interest is in wanting to see change happen, we hope you will benefit and find motivation from your engagement in this course, at a time when we are facing a range of social and climate change-related emergencies.
