    • 5x1 DAFNE

      5x1 DAFNE

What is 5x1 DAFNE? 5x1 DAFNE is a diabetes self-management course for people with type 1 diabetes and is an addition to the evidence based DAFNE education portfolio. It delivers the same content and learning outcomes as standard DAFNE (delivered over five days) in a weekly format (delivered one day a week over five weeks). Educators do not need to learn new content, but to deliver content in a different sequence to achieve learning outcomes through themed days. Because content is delivered over a five week period there is a greater emphasis on action planning and goal setting for the intervening weeks. A randomised controlled trial demonstrated non-inferiority to standard DAFNE in 5 key areas: significant decrease of severe hypoglycaemic events significant improvement in psychosocial outcomes adherence to new self-management regimen both formats very well received by participants no obvious participant preference. Who is it for? The training is for certificated DAFNE educators whose service would like to increase access to DAFNE courses for people with type 1 diabetes by offering an alternative DAFNE format delivered over five weeks. What are the aims of the training? Certificated DAFNE educators have the knowledge skill and competence to deliver standard DAFNE courses. This online training course has been developed to explain the differences between the standard DAFNE course and the 5x1 DAFNE course and the implications for course delivery. The overall aim of the course is to ensure that DAFNE educators can deliver the 5x1 DAFNE course effectively and with confidence.
