2 Encouraging reading (Supporting childrens development)

This badge has been issued for participating in the activities in the free non accredited Supporting children’s development course. This free course supported demonstration of the following key learning outcomes: 1) Have gained an insight into the varying perspectives of children from early years through to secondary school; 2) Be able to reflect on personal experience and practice, identify strengths and weaknesses, and apply this to your practice issues; 3) Understand how some theories attempt to explain children’s development; 4) Be reflecting on the value of the work of teaching assistants, the support skills involved, and thinking about your future role. The specific learning outcomes for this section are: 1) Gain an insight into the varying perspectives on reading and how it is taught, in relation to children from early years through to secondary school 2) Develop an understanding of the ‘reading gap’ and why there is a ‘gender gap’ in reading, and consider the implications for practice.
