Previous e-learning has been dry and isolating. This is fun, interactive and can be a really positive way of getting people back into education.
Open Learning Champion, ScotlandOpenLearn Create provides a lower cost solution for projects and organisations wanting to deliver Open Educational Resources and free hosting of your course if you don't require additional support. It enables you to personalise material to suit your learners, has a low barrier to collaborative community development of learning materials and a space to experiment with new technologies and ways of working.
OpenLearn Create provides a home for research projects which trial new educational technologies and practice.
OpenLearn Create hosts a growing variety of free courses produced by a range of educational and third sector organisations. There is no registration required to take a course however if you choose to register we can offer you more to keep your learning on track.
Learners can rate and review the courses hosted on OpenLearn Create which course creators have built via collaboration across sectors and communities.
OpenLearn Create is related to OpenLearn, the world's largest free learning platform, where The Open University hosts its own specially designed open content. The collections, courses and resources within OpenLearn Create come from a range of providers including the OU, giving you access to rich and varied content that you can study, reuse and remix.
We launched OpenLearn and LabSpace (now OpenLearn Create) in October 2006 thanks to a grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Our shared vision was free online education, open to anyone, anywhere in the world.
The Open University is a world leader in the development of free Open Educational Resources (OER) as well as having already taught over 1.8 million people worldwide. The OU is also the largest academic institution in the UK with over 170,000 students currently enrolled on its formal qualifications. OpenLearn can help get you started but you might want to jump straight to The OU to see what qualifications you can start today!
We ask that wherever possible you choose an open licence for the content you publish on OpenLearn Create and ensure you have cleared copyright on any third party material you use.
At The Open University we believe the primary barrier to access high-quality educational experiences is cost, which is why we aim to publish as much free content as possible under an open licence on our open platforms. If it proves difficult to release content under our preferred CC licence (e.g. because we can't afford or gain the clearances or find suitable alternatives), we will still release the materials for free but under a more restrictive end-user licence.
