1 Defining and exploring the voluntary sector (Taking part in the voluntary sector)

This badge has been issued for participating in the activities in the free non-accredited Taking part in the voluntary sector course. This free course supported demonstration of the following key learning outcomes: 1) understand the role and scope of the voluntary sector, its environment and workforce; 2) recognise and use some of the terms and concepts associated with the voluntary sector; 3) be able to describe the key areas of work in a voluntary sector organisation and how to apply your knowledge about the sector to your own work or volunteering (if already in active in the sector); 4) be able to clarify, and feel more confident about, where your skills and interests might fit within the voluntary sector and know where to go for further information, training and support. The specific learning outcomes for this section are: 1) understand where some voluntary organisations have come from, and who they might register with and report to, if required; 2) know more about the type and number of voluntary organisations in the UK and their staff and volunteers; 3) have an awareness of what drives voluntary organisations and of the environment that they are working in.
