In this short course, we are going to explore two emergent and contrasting concepts which are beginning to feature more prominently in discussions around education and digital technology: postdigital education and Education 4.0. In the process of doing so, the course aims to demonstrate the value of adopting an integrative approach towards the analysis and critique of educational technologies and imaginaries, which encompasses not only technology-focused but also socio-cultural and political perspectives.
In order to get the most out of the course, you are advised to start at the beginning and work through the sections in order, as each section is designed to build on the content introduced in previous sections. At the end of each section you will find a 'Further exploration' page containing additional resources to supplement the core content.
In Part 1, we will consider the connotations of the terms postdigital education and Education 4.0 and reflect on the importance of the terminology we use to frame our conceptions and discussions of education, technology and the relationship between them.
In Parts 2 and 3, we will take a closer look at the concept of the postdigital and consider how it might be applied to education.
In Part 4, we will find out more about the emergence and characteristics of Education 4.0.
In Part 5, we will adopt a more critical stance towards Education 4.0, placing particular focus on two of its featured technologies: virtual reality and learning analytics.
Now let's get started!
