DAFNE Educator Online Learning Programme
Welcome to the DAFNE educator programme. This is a blended learning programme that encompasses online, self-directed and face-to-face training and assessment.
From your orientation and background reading you know that DAFNE is a structured education course for people with type 1 diabetes, which has been shown to improve both short- and long-term complications associated with the condition. This programme has been designed to ensure you can understand and apply the DAFNE principles required for flexible insulin dosing. The learning has been divided into three units:
- Insulin regimen
- Carbohydrate counting
- Group management.
The Insulin regimen and Carbohydrate counting units are made up of a number of sessions. Each session comprises a learning section followed by a short end-of-session quiz for you to demonstrate your learning.
The Group management unit refers throughout to documentation you will complete as part of your course observation. Do not attempt this unit until you have completed your course observation. The content of the Group management unit encourages reflective practice so does not include short end-of-section quizzes.
At the end of each of the three units there is an end-of-unit knowledge assessment, which you must pass in order to proceed with your DAFNE educator training.
You need to complete both the insulin and the carbohydrate units successfully before you can progress to your course observation.
Following your course observation week, you will then be able to complete the Group management unit, which also includes an end-of-unit knowledge assessment. This must be successfully completed before you can attend your face-to-face training and assessment workshop.
Please note that review comments for this course are not regularly
monitored, so if you require a response to a question please contact the
DAFNE team (dafne@nhct.nhs.uk) rather than ask the question via the Course Review tab.
