    • Welcome to Supporting Adolescent Girls' Education ( SAGE): Research and impact

Since 2019, the project team have been documenting learnings from across the SAGE programme.  Learning outputs include learning reports, peer-reviewed articles, conference papers and blogs.  The learning outputs are intended to support practitioners, inform policy makers and contribute to wider academic debates about non-formal education, gender-responsive education, and what is working in community education.

The learnings cover four main themes:

      • How we know the programme works
      • Girls' aspirations for their education and futures
      • What is working in community education
      • Learning about learning.

The film below 'Enough is enough' was devised and filmed in 2021 by seven young women from across Zimbabwe, who were engaged with the longitudinal SAGE research strand on Girls’ aspirations for their education and futures. The young women were supported to make a film that communicates their key messages about education and learning to those who make decisions about girls’ education (including practitioners, policymakers and non-governmental agencies). The young women worked on tablets, with remote support from filmmakers in the UK.  For more information, see ‘Zimbabwean out-of-school girls’ lives: what can we learn from a storytelling research approach?’

SAGE (Supporting Adolescent Girls' Education) is a UK Aid-funded programme through the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Girls’ Education Challenge initiative, led by Plan International and involving a consortium of six partners and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Zimbabwe (MoPSE).
