Week one, activity 3

Hi all

I agree with the definition that leadership is a collaborative participative practice. It’s really important that it provides direction and this direction I think should be mutually agreed in order to establish engagement in the vision or goal. I am less certain about the critical engagement on matters that are made to matter. Critical engagement is important but so is a critical review. I think some issues are made to matter but it may not always be issues made to matter but fundamental issues that just do matter. The issues that may start people working towards a common goal that eventually establish organisations there to meet the needs of others.

To an extent I think the level of engagement is undersold or perhaps the way this engagement must take place to promote leadership as a collaborative participative practice.

A go at my own definition:

Leadership is a collaborative practice with evolving critical review of current processes and services relevant to the established vision, values and ethos of the organisation; or as part of the growth, development and re-establishment of vision and values set against and in response to the expansive issues and needs of the organisation.
