AI in education

Having read both articles, I believe the second is more in depth, I like the way that ethical concerns are balanced with practical usages, as well as the useful links to further reading. Acknowledging AI within education and the workplace is key to producing policy and procedures, as well as reminding us of the time that can be free'd up by taking away administrative tasks that use up valuable time to actually do our jobs rather than keeping on top of emails, filing, creating standard templates, forms etc. It also promotes the importance of equipping students with the skills to thrive in an AI infused environment. If you cant beat them, we're better joining them and getting ahead of the curve, using AI to be more efficient in the workplace and freeing up time for learning, innovation, creativity and face to face engagement.

Like you Samantha, I think that the second article is essentially more credible. The first one (why not to use Chat GPT). was written in a very persuasive (rather than authoritative or academic) style. Although the author is a philosophy professor, the article did definitely seem more like an 'opinion piece' or a thought piece. I found it very readable and would certainly quote some parts in conversation but did not feel that it built up the sort of logical, structured argument that we are looking for during this section of our course...The second article didn't give us very much in terms of methodology, literature review or recommendations, but it did clearly set out its references, offering us a clear way forward if we want to find out more.

Can't help thinking that the question they both debate is going to run and run for a few years yet though !
