Action research

Area of Interest

My area of interest is the development and evaluation of effective strategies within the Future Ready programme to enhance delegate engagement and motivation. Through this project, I aim to explore how Future Ready resources and activities support delegates’ confidence, self‑awareness, and active participation in planning for their future employment pathways.

Approach: Action Research

I will adopt an action research approach to investigate and improve my own educational practice within the Future Ready programme. This approach enables me to engage in a cyclical process of planning, action, observation, and reflection, ensuring that the findings directly inform the ongoing development of the programme and my professional practice.

Quantitative Methods

I will collect quantitative data through:

  • Delegate surveys embedded within the Future Ready programme to measure levels of engagement, motivation, and perceived value of programme activities

  • Learning analytics and participation data (such as engagement with online resources and completion rates) to identify patterns and trends in delegate engagement

This data will allow me to identify which aspects of the programme are most effective and where further enhancement may be needed.

Qualitative Methods

I will gather qualitative data through:

  • Focus groups with delegates participating in the Future Ready programme

  • Facilitated discussions exploring delegates’ experiences, perceptions of motivation, and views on the relevance of the programme to their future goals

These methods will provide richer insight into how and why particular elements of the programme influence student engagement and motivation.

Intervention and Evaluation

Drawing on findings from the initial quantitative and qualitative data, I will design and implement a new or revised Future Ready resources, incorporating strategies identified as effective in supporting delegate engagement and motivation (for example, enhanced reflective activities, clearer articulation of employability skills, or stronger links to real‑world contexts).

Following implementation, I will evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention by:

  • Collecting further survey and engagement data to identify changes in delegate motivation and participation

  • Gathering qualitative feedback to explore delegates’ experiences of the new resources

The results of this evaluation will inform further refinement of the Future Ready programme and contribute to evidence‑informed enhancement of delegate support for future planning.
