Course Reflections

Child - I need to look at the setting and situation through the eyes of the child, and keep them in mind in everything I do

Family - I need to build relationships with the family in order to do the best for their child. They will provide more information and guidance than paperwork

Open Minded (and open hearted) - I need to be willing to be open minded about each child, family and situation I find myself in, I need to be willing to accept new ideas and information and I need to always be striving to do the best I can for every child in my care

thank you so much for sharing your reflections Lesley - I really like the way you have articulated your thoughts in particular about seeing situations through the eyes of the child.  and being open-minded and open-hearted conveys a sense of being a practitioner who is approachable and non-judgmental and therefore is likely to gain the trust of families and be the source of information and guidance (very long sentence here - apologies!)

My three words - head, heart and hand.

I have something of a kindred soul in Elizabeth, as I discovered when we first met a few years ago - and she's just summed this up so beautifully. This is how the child is at the centre of everything and it encompasses the understanding that we are best able to do that when also caring and sensitive to the child's family and carers - and have a team approach with other key professionals. Be creating the environment they can thrive in, we can meet the requirements of policy. By being engaged in the procedures identified, we can be proactive in identifying where review or change is necessary to improve work practice and outcomes.
