Ict can enhance the quality of teaching in several ways.

1 By increasing learner's motivation.

2  Engagement.

3 By facilitating the acquisition of basic skills etc

A teacher can use use mobile phones to take pictures of objects record stories or sound and play these for the learners in the classroom for identification or discussions. Digital camera's can also be given to take pictures of things observed or seen 9n a field trip.

Teachers can use projectors to presented well organised learning materials and also connect to the internet to enable embedded links for addition resources especially from OER to brink pictures, narratives and video that support reality in the field study.

radio can be use for mobile learning through students mobile phones as the broadcast is made or use of tablet to store resources and materials for the curriculum.

Power point and projector

Teachers can design their course using the power-point. They will create the power point and ensure that the font size is large enough for every learner to see. The font type is suitable. Inside the slide, the teacher can include the following; graph, Tables, pictures, data and video. The Disc can also be used to record role plays and drama. The video will be played will then be played during the lecture period. The microphone can be attached into the laptop speaker to ensure high quality audibility.

Yes Bashiru,

ICT can be used in all subjects, what matters is on how a student teacher can integrate the ICT tools into the curriculum. I think during teaching preparation the first thing to think is on the curriculum , comes  pedagogy then ICT tools. And we have to remember  that ICT by it self do not support learning . , there must be  good curriculum, good choices of strategies .

Yes you are right, this is the point where l see the use of ICT for learning going beyond teaching in the classrooms. Since learning can take place in any environment l will concur to the idea of using ICT to generate pictures, object and graphics that can aid good understanding a subject matter. This method in some cases from the counsellors perspective help students in learning good habit and unlearn bad habit.

The use of graphics helps fast rate of assimilation and support critical reflection. I could see the use of ICT in creating picture that can work on the minds of the students for better orientation and adequate guidance and counselling in solving minor or major issues. It can use ti illustrate a point under discussion.

From examples it can be said that  clear activities  set by a teacher  are key   focus on a type of an ICT tool to be used  together with the strategies or methods of teaching  like group discussion or a game.

ADVANTAGES OF ICT IN TEACHING AND LEARNING.

It is pertinent to note that getting started in the use of ICT for effective  teaching and learning does not necessarily require the use of sophisticated devices.Simple and common devices such as Mobile phones, Cameras and Projectors could be adequate.

Use of ICT in teaching enables Learners access to individual research, activates scientific skill, leadership skill, promotes thinking  and discussion skills, boosts computer skills which would be useful in their future careers. Learners do not have to be in school to receive assistance from the teacher.

The teacher is able to deliver learning materials using different methods suitable for learning needs, learners progress is easily monitored, classroom management  and assessment of learners are  easier.

Integrating ICT into effective teaching and learning by adopting active approaches would go a long way to improve both  dissemination and assimilation of learning content.

I really agree with the sentiments put forth. In addition to the ICT tools mentioned, it is important to look for ways in making students think about other ICT tools that can be created other than just using what has been created. For example, cameras and mobile phones can do more than what is already invented hence look for gaps that exist within the gadgets and develop ideas on how to improve them.

IMPORTANCE OF ICT

1.      ICT help young people to arrange, evaluate, and decide on the information that comes to them

2.       Challenge students with different types of supports and formats and, therefore, a great variety of activities in which they pass from receivers to makers

3.       Integrate ICT’s in the learning process, as a key competence and contributing to the acquisition of the target foreign language

Use ICT’s in the classroom to work on information processing, authentic communication, and on the learner autonomy, as the builder of his or her own learning process

Using ICT in the classroom

Using ICT requires Learner- centred attitude and value. The teacher educator using projector in the classroom or Web conferencing platform is not enough  to make changes.

The students need to develop positive attitude and value to the learning with interest and attention to be meaningfully engaged. It is now the role of the facilitator to ensure that he/she make them to be interested.

For the students to have value for the ICT, there should be awareness creation, of the importance and advantages of ICT in the 21st century teaching and learning.

The government should support the institutions in providing Tablets and laptops for students.

Thank you for these interesting points Maryrose and Chinelo. I do agree that ICT can allow students to explore and collaborate in new ways. I also think that the facilitator needs to think carefully about how and when they use ICT in lessons. As Maryrose says the students need a critical understanding of ICT and the possible ways of using it, including benefits and challenges. I suppose the question for teacher educators is 'How do we support student teachers to develop a critical understanding of ICT in the classroom?'

The teacher, when intending to use ICT to teach, must select the technology that best fits the content, master its use and monitor its use by students so that it contributes to an active and meaningful learning.

must ICT modern devises are audio visual which have capacity to combine pictures, sound and motion. teaching and learning become more effective when real live situation is brought into classroom.

teachers can use ICT to project  real pictures, sounds, photographs etc to aid learners understanding. It can serve as a perfect source of instructional materials.

internet is another ICT where teachers can use to refer or explode  knowledge about a subject matter. when learners are exposed to internet they can discover many knowledge about the subject matter on their own making LCE effective.

My institution has a working LMS and i find it very convenient for my teaching. The most important reason is that it helps me manage the huge class better because i am able to monitor attendance and performance of each student where need be. I create self directed lessons that learners are able to follow both online or offline in their mobile phones. I also post on discussion forums on a given topic where each student is required to comment before they can view other student comments. on the platform, i am also able to upload resources like articles, e-books, pdf files that if feel are relevant for further reading. Am yet to try out the virtual classes because of low bandwidth, but sometimes we can organize for live chats (messaging option). There are a lot more handles that i could still try like use of workshops which is a lot more learner centred. It is still a learning experience for me and my learners.

the use of ICT helped to avoid having to write on the chalk board

ICT helped to get the lesson content to her students faster because she simply sent the materials to them via their tablets rather handing out hard copies

ICT also helped to get the students involved as resource persons

ICT can help to get information to students, but the important question is what are the students expected to do with it? Teaching is more than delivering information. Learners need to engage with it and do something active. Teachers need to be careful that ICT is not used to replace 'chalk and talk' with a modern version. It will not be effective for learning.

Adenrele Afolorunso Post 44 in reply to 1

ICT can enhance learning. For instance, the use of projector will make it possible for learners at the back of the class to see what is being taught. Learner can also use their smartphones to record the lesson and play it back later. Even this course we are taking is made possible by ICT.

By taking photos of pages and asking learners to observe the objects and discuss. This motivated learners and they could identify with the real objects.
Taking videos and asking learners to watch the videos enabled effective learning environment, Learnign and teaching became more interactive and learners learned better.
Animations, music, videos enabled understanding of the concepts.
