All the repositories are on the web Samuel, but which of the ones you looked at in Activity 4.2 did you like best and why?

I think there is confusion here. The activity asks you to identify which of the 4 repositories listed you like best and say why. The four are:

Mercy, and everybody, please read Sandra's 2 postings carefully:

The web is the place where the repositories are hosted.

The activity asks you to explore 4 banks / libraries / repositories of OER. The 4 collections you need to investigate are:

Thank you Sandra for making links out of the items of this list. It does help getting to the collections quickly. Going back through the course materials and using the list of criteria established in the last activity might prove very useful.

There seems to be some confusion here. The activity asks you to look at the four  OER repositories and identify which you like best and say why. The four are:

TESS-India;  Khan Academy;  OpenLearn;  Commonwealth of Learning

If you find another repository please feel free to share.

Whoops! Sorry Sandra! I have just repeated your message...

Actually, in the webinar last week, I was fortunate enough to meet colleagues from Togo (Bonjour!) and from Mozambique (Bom Dia!).

As a French speaker and user of OER, I will share some OERs in French. If colleagues who speak other languages would share OER repositories in their own languages, I am sure it would be very useful to other colleagues - Please make sure these collections are OER and are of quality.

For me I like using managementstudyguide.com for my teaching, simple because it has verified and quality assured information which is available free of charge and that it covers all aspects of management.

I like the OpenLearn repository very much because I readily saw articles on health issues that I can eaily adapt to my discipline. Other repository are also good but this one focuses on topics that appealed to me.

Commonwealth of Learning appears more applied, i.e. practical and addressed the local situation around many African countries.

Thanks for your thoughts on this everyone. I think the different reasons you have shared for the OERs you like are really interesting. Accessibility and interactive resources seem to be the key as well as relating to your own context. I wonder if the reasons will be the same if we get further posts about people's preferred OERs?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the OER repositories the course has suggested. You may know other OER repositories you would like to invite us to visit. Please share with us. I will start the ball rolling with:

The Beluga on-line library : https://beluga-edu.org/index.php/fr/

It is a bi-lingual collection of resources crated as a response to the effect to the COVID-19 pandemic on education. To quote an extract of the home page : "A rich collection of African Open Educational Resources (OERs), developed by an inter-African network of education professionals coordinated by APRELIA, is the cornerstone of the educational system presented on BELUGA. Its specificity and value come from the fact that this network mobilizes teachers, teacher trainers from all levels of educational systems, school head and researchers, in order to produce OERs adapted to African educational needs, thus responding to the challenge of the quality of education."

There are lots of resources in French and in English and if our colleagues Portuguese speakers can make recommendations for OERs in Portuguese, I know that this would be looked at very favourably, as would the recommendation for more OER produced and used by colleagues of all languages in Africa.

Activity 4.2: Exploring OER

The OpenLearn repository is a gem for sure. I can confirm.

Under Languages I’d be interested in Beginners’ French: Food and drinks

  • I’d use this with my teacher trainees to demonstrate :
  • How to introduce French to beginners in a fun way. And why not also use it to teach beginners myself?

·         I’d demonstrate some basic vocabulary to talk about food and drink in French.

·         How to express your likes and dislikes in relation to food, and

·         How to order food and drinks in cafés or restaurants, and how to ask for your bill.

·         We will listen to French speakers in a variety of situations, and look at  some skills for coping with reading texts. I know the trainee teachers will like the cultural information throughout the course to help explain customs surrounding meals and food habits in France.

I like OpenLearn because apart from the OER resources they offer, they got numerous other courses apart from my field that could interest me professionally and as a person.
