Sure Charity. We need also to understand the learning styles of our learners. How about the assessment issues? What is your take on this?

Learners learning at their pace implies that the teacher should play the role of a facilitator that create conducible conditions for learning for everyone learner but most importantly should consider the multiple intelligence factor in his/her pedagogy and not put all the learners in the same box fits all model. Every learner is unique and teachers should know how to tap into their potential through the modulation of their facilitation.

Pupils learning at their own pace implies that as a teacher one must consider the learning needs of the pupils and accord each one the needed facilitation so as to enable them learn while at the same time having the learner in mind when creating common activities, since others are fast learners and others are a bit slow.

I really like the fact that you have all engaged with the challenge posed by Hakeem and have offered some ways forward as to what "Pupils learning at their own pace implies" in terms of environment and of teacher response/action.

For Hakeem "Learner Centered Education" brought the concept of "Pupils learning at their own pace".

Does the phrase  "Learner Centered Education" have other connotations for you? Which ones? What do these mean for the teacher and for the classroom environment?

There is need to set learning outcomes with the learner in mind.

for Example "What kind of a graduate would I want to see after the course?"

This kind of backward design thinking leads to one asking "what kind of assessment to i need for my learners? Then What kind of learning activities do i set? How will these activities be set ( Methods of teaching)?

If I carry out the above will be able to achieve my learning outcomes?

I love the Idea of the teacher playing the guide on the side role. This allows pupils, like plants, to flourish. In some institutions this idea is misunderstood to mean giving learners notes ti write...or asking them to make notes or doing lots of assignments ...

this means that the students in the same class are not the same and they have individual difference .Thus they do not learn at the same rate ,thus the teacher has to understand his/her students  and take them at the pace that best suite the students to ensure learning process takes place effectively

Pupils learning at their own pace, implies that teachers are expected to teach learners, all that they are required to know, in the course. They are to also help them develop and build good learning habits, that can help them function effectively, during their personal studies.
