Important message about the final assessment

The assessment in this course is through the quizzes. It is not like doing a test on a conventional course! You can read all the questions before you commit to the answers, and go back to the content and make sure you are confident with the right answers. You do not need to press 'submit' until you are confident of the answers.

This is really assessment for learning. Once you have learnt, this becomes assessment of learning. In my books, it is assessment for success all wrapped in one!

Thank you for this great advice, Kris!

The assessment in quizzes in each section made me work thoroughly on each section. Although, I am used to written assessment. Michele, how can we get any of these books. Are they OER materials

'In my book' is just a phrase Oluwatoyin. It means 'this is what I think'. However, the TESSA OER do have information about assessment and provide examples through the materials.

Quizzes are a useful assessment tool, particularly ones that make the learner think and draw out misconceptions.

Indeed it is assessment of learning and with time there a level of understanding can be achieved and also through discussion with colleagues.

It tests how well one interacted with the resources and colleagues to realise a level of understanding concepts being presented. At the same time the facilitators can reflect on the presentation of learning materials to determine how clearly the content has been and how they could have presented them to achieve a better understanding. Consequently such reflection can lead to further improvement for the benefit of course designers and learners. leading to continuous improvement.

The quizzes are good, and they are good reflections of what is been taught. Except you must be sure you understand them before you attempt, of course there are rooms for second or third attempt

The questions asked were not very easy. They were higher order. One needed to have understood the content in order to score highly. Mere recall had no chance in scoring accurately.

I think an open assessment like this is more tricky than the assessment of a conventional course; we must all be very careful in selecting our answers. Thank you for the information.

The assessment is really good. They made me to understand the course very well. What I don't enjoy was the idea of repeating the whole quizzes in an attempt to get the ones I did not answer correctly. It makes the quiz boring to me. Thank you.

When are we getting our Certificates and Badges?

Thank you for highlighting how assessment contributes to learning, Maryrose.

Certificates and badges will be posted to our e-mail boxes at the end of the course, when it can be verified that we have met all the conditions.

That is a good feeling and observation Maryrose. However, for scoring purpose they want to grade the whole quiz instead of part of it hence the requirement to answer all questions again. With time, they will find a way of keeping credits of previous attempts.

Mary - you should get the badge for completing this course automatically. But to get the certificate for the 'Teacher Educator Programme' you have to also attend (or watch the recordings) of the three 'core' webinars. The last one is on Wednesday 12th at 11am UTC (12pm UK time, 2pm Kenya time)

Thank you Kris for always emphasizing on this form of asssessment in this course. It is a real learning tool and I have never put a pressure upon my shoulders to go about it. It is just a simple check of understanding of the key intakes from a particular topic and this is real cool as a learning tool.

Here I have learnt by doing, real experiential. the assessment is good for the learner and the teacher.  more learner centred as it can be done at any time and pace, has self correction opportunities which further learning.

It is so good to read about the connections you have made between your own experience on the course and methods you can use with your own learners!

Thank you for sharing.

Are sure you don't mean formative assessment Franci? The quizzes in the course are designed to help the learners assess their own understanding / learning and go back to the materials to check and confirm - they are examples of assessment for learning (or formative assessment.

Our Canadian friends might say that the quizzes are examples of "Assessment as learning" (more information on Assessment as learning on http://etec.ctlt.ubc.ca/510wiki/Assessment_as_Learning if you wish to discover more)

Quizzes

Quizzes are necessary to gauge the learning. It is good that the quizzes given here give allowance for one to correct their answers. That is the essence of learning.
