E-facilitation
Thanks.
Obaka, Abel Inabo,
Lecturer,
National Open University of Nigeria
This course does not deal with this aspect of ICT, Abel. But because I cannot help being curious, I have googled your question: "How best to facilitate online using the Zoom application" and have found quite a few leads.

Abel - have you attended any of the webinars associated with this course? We are all learning together! If you come along or view the recording you could see how the various presenters on this course are tackling the issue. You will see some good practice, and some practice where you think you would do things differently! As in all teaching, there is no 'magic solution'. Each facilitator needs to work it out for themselves, based on experiences of taking part and viewing others.

I am of similar opinion with you Kris. Online facilitation is online teaching and we can employ several digital tools to achieve success while we make it interesting for both learners and teacher.
I had a rewarding experience last semester with my students. I would share my screen with them with my PowerPoint presentations, at some other times, I shared url sites of useful resources, which we discussed in class, some other times, I could show video clips as long as these materials drive home my point. In one course, I asked students to come with materials related to the topic we were discussing. Then I allowed each one that came with a material to share their screen. I told them ahead of time so they could prepare on their own before the class. Though students were a bit clumsy at the beginning and some were shy, I encouraged them to share while we discussed the materials. They gained confidence slowly and by the time the class ended, it turned out to be the best of my classes for the semester. It was quite rewarding!
I think you should just be innovative and don't be afraid to try new things, as long as you explore it before the class and you are sure it would make the class interesting for your learners.

This is quite interesting and encouraging. I also share power points slides as well as downloaded pdf files with students. I do also allow the students at the upper level (400) to prepare and present on topics as groups; but it will be more interesting if the url link is provided as well as if they are requires to look for relevant materials especially videos and other materials to present using projector or other ict tool. This will promote their ability to use ICT in teaching.

To support your idea and technique, l will support the use of projection for a successful presentation. Power Point presentation in most cases use to be the means to get the cogent points across to the learners, readers and listeners.
I see it and use it as an annotated bibliography especially when it is necessary to give a summary for adequate understanding of a theme or a topic.
I have found it useful and still finding it useful in presentation, teaching and learning especially with the use of a projector that boost the learning outcome especially when adequate images that are fit for purpose are included in the slides for projection. I have used this for different presentation, also see it as a strength to learn more and learn fast.
As a counsellor, l have used this means to facilitate collaborative learning and team activities participation and also encourage students. I could see the need for adequate learning when the sensory organs are at work during teaching, Power Point Presentation with the use of projection system will in most cases serve this purpose.

I agree with all observations in here. In addition, I would say, sometimes you practice before hand but during the presentation time, something can happen: either no internet access so you go off, or it may be power failure. I have learnt that even the learners got to be prepared for such eventualities.
I help coordinate volunteer zoom lessons for secondary and primary schools within the Kenya Association of Teachers of French (KATF). At the beginning of this week starting 10th Monday August 2020, we had three facilitators on call. 15 min before lesson time, the moderator calls me to say, he may not make it through the whole lesson, so he may start the lesson then hand over the host rights to me. I got no option but to answer in the affirmative. The lesson is to start at pm, but as fate would have it, my internet strength can only allow me in the room at 2.10 Pm. On arrival. another colleague who had not prepared for the lesson is trying to cover for the colleagues. The lesson is 'objects in the classroom' for primary school. So moderator started lesson and left. Facilitator one came in started teaching then, power failure. Facilitator 2 has internet problems ,he cant attend. So I take over moderation and part of teaching because I have the slides. All facilitators have to send us the lesson slides( worksheets) and lesson plan. I notice, my colleague who teaches secondary has tuned the lesson a little bit higher for the primary kids but we got to tone it down. Lesson ends well. In our whatsap coordination forum, colleagues are mad at the facilitators thought to have let the team down. But I have to protect the day's facilitators telling colleagues, all of us have sinned in one way or the other.....And I think I took best decision because otherwise, the accused would also be able to point out shortcomings of the guys who had accused them then the sense of community would be lost! We got to continue collaborating.
To cut the long story short Dr. Obaka, like in our case, we agreed on some set of guidelines to adhere to e.g : lesson plan, lesson notes, lesson observation guidelines, acceptance to participate,...of course it's tough to adhere but if 70 % try to adhere to 60 or 70% of guidelines, it's a success?
If I am teaching, I've learnt that I still need to be neatly dressed, good grooming, ensure that all learners are with me...
Google meet has better resources than basic zoom setup for you can call register, see class arrangement, organise breakout rooms use white board for free...
In zoom, the best service comes if we subscribe to an advanced option or something?
This is my experience already. This course has empowered me so much!!
Thanks to our facilitators and colleagues for the wonderful community!

This can be achieved by ensuring that there's good internet service. Moreso, all slides presentation must be ready, before the zoom online class.
