OERs

Interesting to note that there are so many free resources at our disposal which learners can use. Accessing these would greatly enhance the training of teachers at a very low cost to African Governments. Teachers and Teacher Educators are encouraged to take advantage of the resource. Their adaptation is an interesting activity which students can participate in. In addition integration of ICTs will greatly enhance their utility for use by teacher trainees and teacher educations.

I agree. One of the challenges is that in many countries the Government seeks to control what resources teachers can use, rather than trust them to choose their own.

I encountered this issue once when a TESSA colleague arranged for Olivier and I to attend a meeting at the Ministry of Education in her country. I suggested that I show the officials some videos I had of teachers using TESSA materials in school. But I was asked not to as TESSA OER have not been officially approved and my colleague was worried the teachers would get into trouble - even though the videos showed active learning in action!.

Yes the resource could be adapted and aligned to the curriculum used.
