Social studies

Social studies is the subject that deals with the study of man and his environment. Man is a social being that interacts with his environment. Man's environment consists of things round him which include his fellow human beings, trees, animals, water e.t.c. Man cannot live in isolation, he needs things in his environment to survive. Man is a gregarious being hence he needs his fellow man for interaction and survival. Man influences his environment and in the same way the environment influences him. Man makes a living out of his environment. For example tilling the land for the cultivation of crops for food, he drinks water from his environment, gets vegetables to prepare food and herbs for curing of diseaes and sicknesses. iIt is the duty of man to preserve his enviroment by not engaging in activities that will destroy his environmet such as exceesive felling of trees, poluting the water, killing the animals and his fellow human beings.

The disadvantages of man not maintaining his environment cannot be over emphasised. When the environment is hostile to man  it will no longer be comfortable to man to liive, hence man can die because of the hostile environment. In addition man can suffer hunder and diseases which can lead to his death. Nature sometimes brings hostile and deadly occurrence to man such as earthquake, flood, wild fire among other natural disasters although some contributes to environmental degradation tha can lead to natural disasters.
