The main learning and messages from this session are:
  1. New Safeguarding Leads often feel worried and unsure where to start – but talking to others and taking part in training like this can help reassure you.
  2. Building a network of people to support you both within and external to your organisation is very helpful in your role and should be a priority.
  3. There is a range of important qualities and attributes that help Safeguarding Leads fulfil different parts of their role – with interpersonal skills a key feature.
  4. Safeguarding Leads and your managers need to acknowledge the challenges this role may present.
  5. Stress is part of everyone’s working and personal lives, but Safeguarding Leads need to be aware of its impact and recognise when you need support to reduce or manage it.

When you are ready, move on to Session 2: Managing risk, where you will discover more about understanding and managing risk.
