3.11 Summary of Session 3

Described image
The main learning and messages from this session are:
  1. Senior management sign-off and approval are what gives the policy its status and legitimacy.
  2. Part of your role is helping to explain how a combination of connected policies and procedures is needed to keep people safe – no single policy or procedure alone is sufficient.
  3. Mainstreaming safeguarding and reviewing other policies and procedures across the organisation is an ongoing task.
  4. When codes of conduct are applied to everyone in an organisation, including senior managers, it provides a positive message to the wider organisation about its safeguarding culture.
  5. Codes of conduct are valuable where evidence of any abuse is inconclusive, as they can often provide a way for action against an individual to be taken, if they have breached the code.

In the next session, you will look at the reporting process in more detail.

3.10 How can a code of conduct help to manage some serious cases?
