This activity is aimed at both teachers and students – you may find it a useful resource for your own students to use.

Reflection

What is the difference, do you think, if your students are able to make their recordings available publicly?

Are there any issues that might be raised in publishing students’ work in this way?

Classroom activity

Select an appropriate task for students to record. Examples might include:

  • magazine programmes – perhaps with different groups taking topics of interest to their age-group
  • interviews, role-play, etc., associated with a text you are reading or a topic they are studying
  • investigations into a topic of interest in the school or community
  • interviews with adults – staff in different jobs in the school, older residents in the community, etc.

You might also want to find out more about podcasting, which strictly involves more than just recording and publishing a sound recording on a website. Some of the sites listed in the resources list offer guidance and facilities for this.
