For pupils

Using a variety of assessment techniques can benefit pupils.  Assessment can:

  • help pupils to reflect upon their own learning and progress: understand and appreciate their strengths, abilities and areas for development and be an equal partner, owning their learning
  • provide information for governors, parents and teachers
  • improve attainment and achievement
  • help prevent underachievement
  • improve motivation and self esteem
  • help to set realistic targets.
  • make progress in their ICT learning
  • understand what they are learning about ICT and why
  • explain what they are learning about ICT and why, their progress and how to improve
  • receive feedback on their ICT learning from the teacher and their peers
  • know that their learning is valued and of equal value to others
  • understand and experience success and feel proud about their ICT work.

Formal assessment can motivate some learners but not all.
