- help pupils to reflect upon their own learning and progress: understand and appreciate their strengths, abilities and areas for development and be an equal partner, owning their learning
- provide information for governors, parents and teachers
- improve attainment and achievement
- help prevent underachievement
- improve motivation and self esteem
- help to set realistic targets.
- make progress in their ICT learning
- understand what they are learning about ICT and why
- explain what they are learning about ICT and why, their progress and how to improve
- receive feedback on their ICT learning from the teacher and their peers
- know that their learning is valued and of equal value to others
- understand and experience success and feel proud about their ICT work.
Formal assessment can motivate some learners but not all.
