Debate: Faith as a tool

A forum guest suggested that there might be a positive way to view faith as a tool

Not from an anti point of view but a sympethisers "well, if it works for them" point of view.

Simplistically, could a person or group of persons, or even an evolved theology based on human nature, which afterall is the same whichever century you happen to exist in, work to guide the fragile minded among us or keep the masses on the straight & narrow?

This appears to be the result of whichever faith you follow. Is the "struggle" not the best part of life itself, trying to ammend your mistakes as they happen etc (i could go on and on), without the need for a guide-book?

religion - a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.

Faith- is the confident belief or trust in the truth or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing

ardor - 1. Fiery intensity of feeling. See Synonyms at passion.
2. Strong enthusiasm or devotion; zeal

it seems that no matter who I encounter they all seem to hold to a religion. whether theistic, agnostic, or atheist.

Most people are clueless and open to adoption if it will break up the boredom between now and then

Mainly it's chinese whispers, word of mouth, long gone and past history all rolled into political/social agenda. Throw in the comfort of an afterlife we don't know exists, that's blind faith. You can't see it but it gives the believer a false sense of security that when they die. Which we all will. That they will have something else, immortality. All great for keeping the masses in their place - where you want them, doing what you want them to do. Rally them to a cause etc. Tribal emotions!

Negatively, it gives them a cop out, they don't need to enjoy living their life in the reality of this physical world, with their physical bodies. So the future doesn't matter because they have a 'nothing matters' attitude to life. All that matters is the afterlife and the ego.

Just my opinion.

Feel free to erase should you choose to do so.
