7.5 Monitoring progress

This stage of the framework is about keeping track of your progress. Are you using number effectively for your purposes? How do you know? Could you have done things differently: made use of different tools (such as software packages) or facilities, taken more advantage of tutorials, training sessions or local expertise, or recognised that such support would have helped you?

Monitoring your own performance and progress needs practice; try to stand back and look at what you are doing as if you were an independent reviewer. Feedback from others can help you to identify your strengths and weaknesses. You may find it useful to discuss with a tutor, other students, work colleagues or manager how you might monitor your work.

As you work though this stage, take time to use your Skills File to record your own comments on your progress, as well as feedback from others. Finally, at the end of this stage, there is an activity ‘Monitoring and critically reflecting on your number skills strategy’ to complete which asks you to review, reflect on and, if necessary, adapt your number skills development strategy.
