This free course, The science behind wheeled sports, focuses on cycling and wheelchair racing: what we might collectively call wheeled sports. The Scientific concepts such as force, acceleration and speed are also useful for understanding these sports. However, cycling and wheelchair racing differ from other sports in that technology more obviously plays an important role.
Please note: This course contains two Flash activities
which are no longer playable. These are being updated. This course can still be
studied, but you may like to postpone your study for now if you would rather
have the full experience.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
understand forces and their role in determining performance in sport
understand the science behind new technologies, and their impact on sport
apply this knowledge and understanding to familiar and unfamiliar situations
express course concepts in an objective and factually correct way
make sense of a variety of information sources, including textual, numerical, graphical and video material.
The heart of the course appears to be two main learning exercises that use Adobe Flash. If, like me, you choose not to install Flash, I found that there was little left. And what did remain revolved mainly around exercises designed to practice the use of search engines.

I have enjoyed the course to date. Progress made learning various learning new ideas with examination of research methods. New knowledge gained on skills of internet search, with use of items, images and key words, to sucessful conclsion. Use of a new browser window, and reaching prefered search engine site. Construction of list from keywords to access websites with use. List formulation with websites advised from my seach engine, with limited choice at start of search. A task I have already experienced from previous learning, from the Open Learn science course. I well know that even limited choice of 3 websites can have time implication, given the thousands of seach engines provided over the polychromatic nature of rereach data, used in academic study.
