Biography

My research and teaching uses systems approaches to explore ideas and practices for environmental managing and sustainability in a climate changing world. The focus of my research work is in understanding the changing nature and dynamic of the co-evolutionary relationship between humans and their environments. This is achieved by designing and enacting systemic inquiries with stakeholders to engage in learning about complex situations in order to identify concerted actions. The context for this work varies from rivers to deserts, cities to rural areas, droughts to floods, and from local groups to governments and international policy and practice. My undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at is aimed at enabling students to appreciate and develop the skills and capabilities for systems thinking and practice. This can enable innovative and more systemic ways of thinking about and approaching environmental management and sustainability issues in many different settings and contexts.
