Biography

Associate Dean Curriculum & Assessment, Faculty of Wellbeing, Education & Language Studies at The Open University. Tyrrell was Associate Head of School - Curriculum & Quality for the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sports having previously been Head of Qualifications (Undergraduate) Childhood and Youth at the Open University, which includes the BA (Hons) in Youth Work with JNC and BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies. She has been a full-time academic at the university since March 2011. Prior to this she was a Senior Lecturer in Youth and Community Work at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. Tyrrell came in to higher education after a career in Community Education, Community Development and Youth Work and became a lecturer to support those wishing to enter this field of work and those already working in the field. She has worked 'with' people throughout my career and through every life stage, though she particularly passionate about work with young and older people. Tyrrell is interested in lifelong learning. Her EdD Thesis entitled 'Volunteering and Lifelong Learning: An exploration of adult motivation to volunteer in work with young people in England' is just one way in which she is exploring how adults learn informally as well as formally.
