# 1 Analysing collisions

The analysis of collisions is of fundamental importance in physics, particularly in nuclear and particle physics, and the techniques used to analyse collisions are well established and widely used. They are also very firmly rooted in the basic conservation principles (or ‘conservation laws’ as they are sometimes known), particularly those of momentum and energy.
