It was this time on the pre-election timeline that the parties really went to town with the mud-slinging. And it was never more evident then in the famous election posters they produced, in particular the Conservative's 'double whammy' campaign which showed a boxer with a huge pair of boxing gloves, one saying 'More taxes', the other 'Higher prices' all under the heading: Labour's double whammy.
The unveiling of the posters apparently elicited groans and lots of eye-rolling from watching journalists, with The Guardian describing it as a pair of 'badly drawn boxing gloves'.
What was even more interesting was the ad company that designed it: the famous Saatchi & Saatchi. The national newspapers took delight in reporting that Doris Saatchi, the American first wife of co-founder Charles Saatchi, supported Labour, saying: "Just because you are rich doesn't mean you don't have a conscience."
