The badge system provides a consistent way to recognise modelling and planning expertise across different organisations and tools, creating a clear path for professionals to develop their skills and advance their careers in geospatial energy modelling and planning. By encouraging ongoing learning and recognising achievements, it helps build a vibrant community of practice in energy system modelling. The framework is designed to be flexible, accommodating various modelling approaches while promoting awareness of capacity-building opportunities through CCG’s Energy Modelling Platform events and similar programs. This structure not only standardises skill recognition but also connects modellers and planners to a broader professional network, fostering knowledge sharing and professional development in the field of geospatial energy system modelling and planning. The badge available in this course is the EAE – Bronze Proficiency Badge.

This badge demonstrates practical ability to integrate and configure basic geospatial datasets, conduct scenario analysis, and interpret results. Bronze Badge holders can construct working geospatial models, solve common issues, and understand how geospatial modelling supports energy access policy decisions. Earned through completion of an approved in-person training course and a practical project that shows hands-on modelling skills. This badge is roughly equivalent to completing a Masters-level module (7.5 ECTS).
Applicants will earn the EAE- Bronze Proficiency Badge if their submission meets the following criteria:
1. Completed an intermediate-level in-person training course for EAE (e.g., EMP summer school or equivalent regional or in-country training, master's level course equivalent to 7.5 ECTS)
2. Configured each dataset correctly in the backend so that they can be displayed without error in the frontend of an EAE geography
3. Submitted a project report or modelling case study demonstrating the application of learned skills
Evidence required:
• Upload evidence of attending an in-person training course or master's module / course i.e. certificate of completion/graduation.
• Share a link from the EAE platform with the analysis conducted that consists of the selected layers and filters applied on each layer (using the "Share analysis" function in EAE)
• Provide links to materials produced from the course i.e. publication, project report, posters, policy briefs, assessments, blogs etc (including from Zenodo or other sites)
