About this lexicon

OurAI words is a collaborative, openly available lexicon that helps students, staff and the wider public make sense of AI terminology through clear, accessible and inclusive language. Co-created with students and staff as partners, it supports critical AI literacy by challenging misleading, anthropomorphic and hype-driven terms, providing plain-language explanations, and encouraging reflection on how language shapes our understanding of AI.
Rather than acting as a traditional dictionary, the lexicon is a living educational resource that evolves through community contributions, emerging technologies and new understandings. By bringing together multiple perspectives, it aims to foster more confident, informed and critical engagement with AI across education, work and everyday life.
