Welcome
These Open Educational Resources (OER) are activities for secondary school leaders, classroom teachers, and facilitators of informal learning around the world. The OER support professional and peer learning to strengthen inclusive practice in the area of language and gender.
The OER are based on evidence from British Council/Open University research in Nigeria and Nepal. The research explored the opportunities and challenges of English as the language of instruction for girls and boys in secondary schools. The OER were co-created with students, teachers, and school leaders.
Many countries increasingly use English as a language of learning and teaching instead of or in addition to the national, regional or local language. This raises questions about educational participation, attainment and inclusion, especially for girls who may already be marginalised or vulnerable.
The resources are online and downloadable in word format. They can be adapted, re-used and shared on social platforms and mobile devices.
