    • Welcome to Becoming a Barrister

Becoming a Barrister is a collection of resources produced for The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in conjunction with academics at The Open University and the University of Sheffield.

This second resource – Part 2: Supporting an aspiring barrister – provides support and guidance about becoming a barrister for parents, carers, families and teachers. This includes a road map to help parents, carers and families support aspiring barristers with their career plans and guidance for teachers on incorporating Part 1 into the national curriculum.

The road map is divided into five sections:

      1. School.

      2. A Levels.

      3. The law degree or GDL.

      4. The vocational stage of training.

      5. Pupillage.

Part 1 of these resources – Learning about barristers – is aimed at students aged 14–16 years old who are interested in a career as a barrister or simply want to find out more about what barristers do and the role they play in the justice system in England and Wales.

Part 3 of these resources – Planning an outreach session – is aimed at existing barristers and judges. It provides useful guidance, including a lesson planner to help construct a plan for outreach sessions in school, college and community settings.
