Welcome to the course
This course explores the topic of sustainability and supply chains. We will begin with an introduction to the principles of sustainability and understand the emergence of multilateral agreements which have supported the adoption of sustainable development commitments. We will introduce the concept of supply chains as processes that link raw materials from nature to end products that consumers can purchase. We will reflect on how businesses can account for the risks associated with being linked to negative environmental, social and governance impacts associated with their products. We will explore independent tools available to businesses to understand their supply chain impacts.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
- Understand key concepts of sustainability including the three principles of social, ecological and economic sustainability and how they interact.
- Identify the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and be able to link specific development goals to familiar and unfamiliar situations.
- Demonstrate awareness of the key stages, flows and processes of supply chains.
- Acquire and interpret information on sustainability assessments using online, third-party databases.
