Lesson 5.4: Knowledge and continuity
In this topic you will discover how knowledge is shared within and across organisations and what the main challenges to collaboration and networking are. You will also explore the intergenerational tensions present in queer and feminist movements and the testimonies of people’s longing for meaningful intergenerational exchanges based on care and mentoring.
6. Knowledge-sharing as care
Sharing knowledge is not only about passing on skills; it is also a form of care.
Telling stories of past victories and setbacks helps build a sense of continuity, reminding activists that resistance is a long arc, not a single moment.
| Intergenerational dialogue and mentoring weave together emotional and political solidarity. An older feminist sharing movement history, or a younger trans activist teaching digital security, both contribute to a living archive of collective learning. |
As Sara Ahmed (2017) notes, feminist archives are “living” because they are not merely repositories of the past, but practices that keep the present politically alive. Knowledge is emotional as well as informational. It binds communities through shared purpose and empathy.
