Activity 3.1: What does active teaching look like

Use this thread to describe one way in which you will try to actively engage learners in your classroom next week. eg discuss an open question in pairs, copy from the board but leave gaps to fill in, do a sorting exercise in groups, etc...

The teacher uses various teaching and learing methods that actively engages students in the learning and teaching process, encouraging them to be active in class rather than passive learners. This describes active teaching and learnig.

In acheiving this the teacher can engage learners through group discussions, use open questions that will encourage learners to come out with solutions etc

Great point Francis.

Do you have an example from your own teaching?

eg I taught Science - I used 'think-pair-share' alot. You give the class a problem (eg match some words with definitions. They do it on their own, then share with a partners. They have to compare responses and agree the right answers. Then they share with another pair. If they don't agree, they have to discuss.

How do you ensure that each member of the group is able to respond to the questions the teacher poses to the group?
