From the video in activity 3.3, I have learnt that:
1. I have to guide learners to work in groups
2. Fast learners help slow learners.
3. Use local language to express facts and gradually transition to English.
4. Ask learners to explain some facts to me as a teacher when some learners use unfamiliar words in expressing their selves in class.
Great observations Issah. I particularly like your point about having to guide learners to work in groups. They find it difficult at first which can be discouraging for the teacher. You need to persevere!
Another and possibly the first thing might be for the teacher to take little steps of transformation towards students centered teaching practises when planning and implemening their lessons.
In supporting the perseverance, I suppose the teacher might just be more observable and recognise the tiny changes that may be occuring in the class. It migh be good not to be so voiceferous so that the students dont become aware that you are observing the changes.Children in older classes like the secondary schools may often retract.
