Week 3, Activity 6. Ideal Leader

My ideal leader, particularly in the voluntary sector, would be aligned with the vision of the organisation, even if they were not involved in it;s development, ie on joining an established charity.  However, they must have the courage to critically review the vision and work collaboratively with management colleagues to refresh and re-imagine the future for the organisation and develop the vision to reflect that future.  The leader must be a role model for the organisation's vision of 'how' things are done in order to achieve the vision - aligning fully behind organisational values in both word and action.  Respect of other's views and willing to accept alternative solutions, feedback and perception is critical, although with the ability to hold fast against the vision, once agreed.  Developing skills and confidence in colleagues is vital, empowering them to take accountability through providing guidance and safety to sometimes get it wrong, and help them learn from those mistakes through reflective practice to enhance skills and confidence.
