This is a good metaphor to distinguish between the different uses of the web and how we engage. I have noticed that as my digital literacies have improved (I did not grow up with access to the web) whilst I have on occasion become a resident, I have learnt that that approach is not something I'm comfortable with and much prefer the role of a visitor. For that reason, I now rarely engage with social media.
