Scots in the wild

Just a short wee reflection/ rant.

I was speaking to a close friend about family. She was speaking about my mum - and how my Mum referred to my Grandma as "Ma".

She commented on that and said - "Ma - isn't that a bit common".

This I think sums up much of the way language is viewed - although her dad was brought up on a farm - this aspect of language and culture - is almost lost on her.  I will regularly be brought up on my use of "scotiishisms" - but this - about my Mum - was a little too close.

Anyway - rant over - education at least has the chance to change hearts and minds over the importance of our language, culture and heritage.
