The TESSA OER helps to provide a platform for learning opportunities for teachers in order engage learners with active and collaborative learning:
my question now is, while parents not included in teaching and learning in the whole approaches
TESSA OERs are available for all. So parents are able to access them.
Parents can also be included in teaching activities: throughout the TESSA resources, there is a strand that suggests inviting visitors to the classroom to contribute to pupils' experience. There is no reason why some of the visitors cannot be parents.
The community at large plays a great part in the TESSA resources. Chapter 8 of the TESSA inclusive education toolkit is devoted to relationships with community : Creating bonds between the school and home
I agree with Michele. The learning of our students requires the involvement of all the stakeholders.
In fact the Kenya new system of education dubbed Competency Based Curriculum(CBC) has a way of forcing parents to participate in their children's education. Teachers give assignment that require some research on the web. For example, at one time when the 1st Kenya president had passed on, my niece now in grade 4 called me at lunch hour from home, where she stays with her grandmother called me to help her go through queries like, When did Mr. Moi (First Kenya president become president) for how long for how long did he serve as Vice president, which constituency did he rule....) I too had to go online to get the answers, the call back, to have the child complete the assignment!!
Parents are to get involved in this, at their own pace, especially considering the fact that the TESSA OER provides a platform for learning opportunities, hence they can always partake in this, for more active and collaborative learning.
