Open Pedagogy

The idea behind open pedagogy is the breaking down of barriers.

“Open pedagogy is an ethos that has two major components:

  • A belief in the potential of openness and sharing to improve learning,
  • A social justice orientation – caring about equity, with openness as one way to achieve this.”

What is Open Pedagogy anyway? (Maha Bali)

Questions:

  1. As an educator, how often do we share our ideas, thoughts, experiences and resources with others?  If you were to share with others, how open would you be?  Would you share with your team? Your department? Your college?  Would you be brave enough to share publicly?
  2. If openness is a way of achieving equity and social justice, what factors prevent us from adopting open educational practices?
