This week made me think about how easy it can be for a learner to feel excluded, even when they are physically present in the classroom. I have always believed that teachers should try to include everyone, but I realised that inclusion is not only about helping learners with disabilities. There can be many other barriers, such as language, confidence, family circumstances or simply feeling that nobody understands you.
One question I have after this week is: how can we really notice when a learner is feeling excluded if they do not say anything? I think sometimes teachers may focus so much on completing the lesson that they do not notice these small signs. I would like to learn more about practical ways of identifying these situations and making the classroom a place where every learner feels that they belong.
