Making your wireless network secure

Staying safe while you’re online is important. With a wireless network, your network’s signal could be broadcast outside your home. If you don’t secure your network, people with computers nearby could access information stored on your network and use your internet connection.

To protect your network, change the username and password that comes with your router. Most routers have a default username and password and a default network name. There will be instructions on your device explaining how to change these. It’s important to choose a strong password. We will cover passwords in Lesson 3 [Tip: hold Ctrl and click a link to open it in a new tab. (Hide tip)]   and internet security in Lesson 5.
