Social networks can keep us in touch with anyone who has an internet connection, no matter where they are in the world and at no extra cost. They help us connect with friends, family, colleagues and people with similar interests. They allow us to share messages, ideas, documents, pictures and videos online.
In this section we will look at Facebook, Twitter and Zoom, which are platforms that support social networking.
They are also known as social media platforms – websites that enable you to connect to social networks. There are more than 65 social media platforms available. Here are some of the better known platforms. How many have you heard of?

Different platforms offer different features. Some enable you to create or join online communities, where people can share information with one another. You can share posts so that your ‘friends’ or ‘followers’ can see them and comment. Most platforms also allow you to send private messages so that not all your communication is public.
