I am planning to teach ‘O sole mio’ because I think this is a song many people will have heard and might link nice memories with, for example, it will be a song people have heard played in Italian restaurants during family meals. I have also chosen this song because it has a catchy melody and the chorus is easy to pronounce. I have taken my ideas about using this song from the Superprof website.
I would select key words from the song and speak them out loud together with my learners, we would also translate them and discuss what the song could be about.
I would play the song and ask people to sing along focusing on the words that are familiar. We would repeat this, over time and in different sessions, and select, translate and sing more and more words from the song.
